State Fair Food Hall of Shame - That's Fit
Okay Ladies, so a lot of you know that I often visit big state fair events while performing my HypnoChick Comedy Hypnosis Show. You also know that I do my darndest to stay in shape. So how do these two things intermix? Well, it takes a whole lotta effort on my part not to indulge. I figure many of you may be visiting your fair this year, so I've posted this article to enlighten you on the calories you are consuming in just one fun day at the fair. Now, trust me, I'll be utilizing these guidelines myself while I perform at the big Puyallup Fair this September. Check it out, and maybe you can find some helpful hints on how to enjoy your fair day, and still focus on staying in shape.

The Pain is Temporary, the Pride is Forever
My run buddies had anxiety, and nervousness about the race. For me, I was ready to measure my stamina. Anxiety was purely excitement.
That morning we awoke at 4:30am to a slight drizzle. We dressed in our cute runners apparel, and packed our goo belts with the essentials. The highway was packed on a Sunday at 5 am, all runners trying to find their way into the massive parking lot at the airport for the Rock n Roll Marathon.
We shuttled to the start camp at Balboa Park, and stood in line for 45 minutes just to use the port-a-potty. Apparently, everybody needed to go. With only seconds to spare, wearing trash bags as temporary jackets, we ran up to the start line to join the 20,000, and some r
The tight proximity of runners began to disperse as we all moved down the road together. Men dressed as cheerleaders, stuffed boobs and all, yelled and screamed on the sides of the road. We laughed, and cheered with them. Shortly thereafter we ran with Elvis for a time. Then next to a man wearing only a little red speedo. No shoes, just his bare feet, and holding the American Flag.
With ease we found ourselves at mile 13, making our way through the Fashion Valley area of San Diego. There were thousands of families, friends and onlookers lining the streets. Their energy was important to us as we yelled and screamed along with them.
Mile 17 was a welcome surprise. As we ran through a San Diego Bay Park neighborhood, an entire family was in the street in front of their home handing out orange slices to all the runners. I have never tasted an orange slice so magnificently juicy, and good. You could compare the moment to a person lost in the desert, and stumbling upon an oasis.
Screaming "You

Mile 24 was now upon us. My partner and I have temporarily been separated. There are people running all around me. Some are looking distraught, and in pain. I pass a gentlemen to my right that is receiving assistance from a stranger that is now his friend. The man puts his arm around the gentlemen consoling him, and says "Hi, I'm Jack, I'll be with you the rest of the way." The camaraderie was heart warming.
Those last two miles were surreal. It felt as though I had to muster up strength from somewhere deep inside of me. Strength I didn't even know I had. My body was physically being pushed to a point I had never known. But I had trained, and prepared. Even though I was tired, and feeling as though my legs were running unconsciously, I felt strangely strong and determined.
A silence fell upon me, and for awhile I was completely in my own head. Thoughts of old life experiences were popping in my head unannounced. Old self doubt, and disappointment in past decisions. I started to get teary. Not because I was breaking down, but because I was overcoming those lifelong hurts. Literally. I chose to leave any shred of self doubt, and experiences of the past on the road that day. They should be somewhere around Sea World Boulevard, and I won't be going back to get them.
The finish line was an overwhelmingly joyful moment. With thousands of people in bleachers and along the barriers, I cheered my way across that line. I knew I did something great for myself on that day. For my soul, my spirit. I will never forget my first Marathon.

MORE Marathon

I planned this trip six months in advance. One of our Mind Body Fit Club members had suggested we meet in NYC for this event. I was game, so I quickly signed up and began training.
We met in New York City a couple of days before the big race. We enjoyed dining in Soho, a one man show in Noho, and the world's best cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery, according to the Oprah show. They really weren't that over the top, but a yummy treat before running a Marathon. We figured we'd work it off.
Come race morning, we all jumped on the subway to make our way down to the start line. I was to be running the full Marathon 26.2, and the rest of our group was signed up for the half 13.1.
I approached the start line only to find no one there. One of the race officials let me know they canceled the Marathon due to record heat of 90 degrees projected for the day. This was extremely disappointing news, after all, I trained for months, and traveled 3,000 miles! I was told to go to the start line for the half marathon and participate.
As I was running the half marathon, I couldn't help but think how cool it was that all of these women, all shapes and sizes, Moms, career women and grandmas, all running to celebrate their lives. It was inspiring to be amongst them, and to be included in that mindset.
The day was hot. They were smart to have cancelled the big 26.2. I kept dousing myself with water at every station to ward off the heat. At that point I was thankful I was only running 13 miles.
At mile 12, I ran past a group of women that were severely tired. I overheard them speaking to eachother, saying "I can't do this, I'm done, I don't think I'll make it..." Call me nosy, but I felt the need to invite myself into their conversation. I encouraged them with one line. I said, "Come on ladies, YOU GOT THIS!!!" It felt good to share the love. They will never know who I was, but I can only imagine they will remember those words, because after I ran by I could hear them shouting to eachother, "That's right, You got this, We got this"!
Crossing the finish line is always a huge feeling of accomplishment. I don't care if you've run one race or one hundred, the feeling is always triumphant. I do it for fitness, but selfishly I do it for confidence. The mindset I have learned from running I am able to apply to other areas of my life. It helps me to persevere.
This day was not to be my first big Marathon. It just wasn't in the cards, so when I returned to my hotel room I went straight to the internet and signed up for the Rock N Roll Marathon in San Diego just one month later.
New York was a blast, and I plan to return next year. Will you join me?

The Carlsbad Marathon & Half

I stood next to a comical guy at the start line. He had me laughing and feeling at ease with our conversation about running. He had been running only about six months, and had lost 50 pounds in the process. This was to be his first race, and he did not know what to expect from the experience, furthermore from his body. He joked about passing out at the finish line and other humorous things. I reassured him he would do much better than he thinks.
The start gun shot went off and I began my strategy of running slow with deliberate walks through each water station. As the people around me darted off at full strength, I told myself to take it slow and pace myself for a successful finish.
By mile 8, I was still feeling strong. I was quite surprised with myself. After all, I had been nursing jet lag and a cold just the week prior. At mile 10 I was still feeling an abundance o
Approaching the finish line was a huge feeling of accomplishment and excitement. I finished the 13.1 mile race18 minutes faster than my first half marathon. That felt really good. I've already been on the internet searching for my next half marathon as I build up to the "Big Full Marathon" on April 26th in New York City.

The City of Angels Half Marathon
After completing a 12 week training program by renowned running coach, Hal Higdon I was ready to run the 13.1 mile City Of Angels Half Marathon. The race went from Griffith Park to downtown Los Angeles. On my own account I unfortunately missed the shuttle to the start line on race morning, and was forced to make a decision, either turn back and not participate, or run 3 miles to the Start line. Being that I came to race and do not consider myself a quitter, I ran to the start line. This meant that I am now running a 16.1 mile race, not the 13 miles I had trained for. I knew that I must restrategize my thinking, adjust accordingly and basically, suck it up.
When I arrived at the start line, everyone was gone. The race volunteers had already left for the finish line, the racers were down the road and out of sight, and there was just one race official breaking down the trussing on the start line. He saw me and I anxiously said, "Am I too late?" He answered, "No, just cross the line so that your electronic tag registers that you are in the race." I did just that, and he pulled the electronic cable up right after I passed. I was literally the LAST runner in the race. He ran next to me momentarily informing me that I was the LAST runner in the race, and not to feel pressured, but just have fun. Yea, okay, no pressure, there's just 6, 210 people ahead of me.
The race was a challenge for me. It was to date the longest I've ever run in my thirty nine and a half years- 16.1 miles. Although it was difficult, it reminded me of why I love running.
To run long distance you must be dedicated and focused on completing your miles every week, setting goals and accomplishing them. When you're running it's only you and your body out there on the streets. There is no one to help you complete the task. You are dependent only on you. It teaches a type of self motivation that comes from within. The kind of self reliance that is only learned through doing something challenging.
I began last on that morning, but I passed 3,233 people along my journey. Down the golf course trails, along the freeway bicycle paths, over the bridge and to the top of the city view scapes, completing the task that I signed up for downtown with thousands of people cheering us on.

My only question now is....when is the next race? Join me there.

Free to Breathe

As seen in Healthy Living Magazine
You are now free to Breathe
Are you ready to quit smoking? The mountains are the ideal environment for tranquility of mind and fresh air for health. The setting is right, but what if our habitual behaviors do not support our way of life? Many smokers have aspirations to quit, but find themselves torn between desire and dependence. There are significant reasons for this yin & yang effect that perhaps one has not considered.
Were you born a smoker? In your birth hospital did the nurses segregate the smoking babies from the non-smoking babies in the nursery? Maybe that statement caused a chuckle, but have you ever thought about the labeling that takes place with being a smoker? There’s group A, the Non-Smokers and group B, the Smokers. It’s similar to joining a club that has certain belief systems and causes for their organization. A great question to ask yourself; have you resided to wearing the Smoker badge? If the answer is yes then the key to quitting is simple. Switch your badge to thinking and acting like a nonsmoker, and you have made the first step toward changing your identity or belief system.
Medical research has shown that nicotine is an addictive substance. Immeasurably more powerful is human nature’s attraction to habitual behavior. CNN’s research shows that seventy five percent of smokers say they do want to quit. Think of the positive outcome if the same seventy five percent made the necessary changes to their psychology; they could find themselves joyfully successful at being a part of the nonsmoking group for good.
The fastest path to better health could be a simple examination of lifestyle. Why do you smoke? What triggers your need for a cigarette? Why am I choosing to be part of an activity that is purposely bad for my health or even slowly killing me? Conducting an emotional and behavioral assessment on a deeper level could be the answer to understanding the inner conflict with quitting. Drugs can offer a bandaid, but empowering yourself with emotional knowledge can seal the deal and present new strategies for life.
The final factor is timing. The American Cancer Society polls show that it took people who smoke an average of three attempts before they were successful. Why? Because no amount of influence from outer sources can make you quit. Spouses nagging, society influences, or loved ones dying from smoker related diseases can’t make you quit. It must be solely a choice from your heart in deciding if you are worthy of better health and are willing to incorporate new life coping tactics.

For six years De’Anna’s program has been sponsored by the California Department of Health and Human Services. And, the United States Marine Corps has hired De’Anna in assisting soldiers to successfully become smoke free.

3 Ways to Get Great Exercise!

2-Take Someone Else's Dog For A Walk. Okay, so you don't have a dog. So next time, tag a long with your neighbor when they go out to walk their dog. It'll get you out of the house and shak'in off the Winter Blues.
3-Take Yourself for A Walk. You don't have a dog and neither does your neighbor. Or, maybe you just don't like your neighbor! The time is now to get out and burn some calories. Walking is great exercise, and you don't have to be intimidated by some fitness buff girl at the gym. It's just you and the road!
Many of the people that attend my Hypnosis Weight Loss Seminars are embarrased to go to the gym because they feel like they don't fit in. Nonsense! You can't let other people dictate your weight loss success. I live in the mountains of Southern California, and one of my favorite forms of exercise is hiking in the woods. I started off with the easy trail and before long I built up stamina to hike the steep butt burners. Just My dog and I out on the trails is a great time for me to reflect on the day, make plans for tomorrow or simply just detox from the busyness of life.
If you can't seem to get your butt out there, I have a Hypnosis CD for you that will motivate you to exercise. This is not for regular gym users! It's for the lazy bone couch potatoes that can't seem to get it together. Hypnosis can change everything for you ! Try it now.

Sweet Lov'in & a Valentines Wish

There's nothing like being in love. Especially when you come together as two whole mature adults in a healthy relationship. Isn't it funny how that statement almost seems boring? Remember the lust and passion you once had?
I sure do, and I am happy to report that it is still there eight years later. When my husband Troy and I met we were crazy, mad in lust for eachother. We couldn't get enough! And now eight years down the road we've grown into so much more. Life experiences both good and bad have taught us valuable lessons. Sharing the birth of our child and now raising him is such an adventure. But that does not replace the raw passion for one another does it? Yes, every facet of a relationship is so important in order to make us feel complete.
My wish for all of you for this Valentines Day is to shock your signifigant other with a little surprise of passion. If you've been caught up in the busyness of life for quite some time, then they'll never see it coming! Ladies, take a shopping trip to Victoria's Secret, or for that matter, guys you go buy something you'd like to see her in. Make this Valentines a day for renewal in all areas of your relationship. It's amazing what a night of hot lov'in can do for a tired relationship. Step outside your comfort zone and let loose! You can use Hypnosis to solidify this new action and rekindle the flame. Check out the Hypnosis CD title called Love, Passion & Romance on sale now for Valentine's Month! Click here-Love, Passion & Romance

Radiate Your Confidence Now
Finally we are all learning how important self-esteem is to our very lives. But as I travel around the country speaking and performing I meet so many of you that are broken. Your light is dim and barely flickering, and you are unwilling to accept the greatness within yourselves.
I spent much of my young life feeling bad about myself. In retrospect it was all so unecessary. When we're feeling low we often isolate ourselves in misery instead of letting someone help us. I remember wanting to redeem myself from self destructive behaviors, but not feeling worthy.
Childhood Hurts Have Deep Affect on Life
So what does a young kid have to be miserable about? Maybe you have experienced deep hurt. Maybe it's just feeling like you don't fit in. From an outside perspective many times people can't relate with your low self-esteem. But to a child the pain of the world surrounding you can affect you deeply. Parents fighting and divorcing, lack of communication in the household, bad enviorments or even parents that are so caught up in their own world they don't have time for yours.
All or some of these issues can be true for you, but it doesn't matter when it comes to choosing happiness. Above all, your self esteem and outlook on life is a choice. You either choose to rise above or you spend your life playing the victim of circumstance.
One day about eight years ago I decided I wanted more. Not just more as in material things. But more from myself. It was time to take a good look in the mirror and discover who was really looking back at me. Over time I found that the person I despised all these years was not so bad. In fact, there was a whole lot that I really liked about her. I just had never given her the chance to speak. I was so busy creating self destructive patterns to emulate how I was feeling on the inside that I was blind to the truth. What I would soon learn is that my truth was that I was a girl with big dreams and visions of grandeur; I had things to say, foreign lands to visit, people to meet.
In all of us there is a person of unique ability. Perhaps you know that deep down inside, but you just can't seem to find your way out of the state of affairs you are in. I challenge you now to venture out. Take a step in the direction of your highest good.
Deep Hypnotic Suggestion
I have written and professionaly produced a Hypnosis CD that will help you to find the best parts of you and make them shine brightly. It's called Radiate Confidence and is twenty two minutes of powerful Hypnotic suggestion that I have taken from my own life experience and the lives of people that I have helped. You will travel deeply into the subconscious as I guide you with Hypnosis to a place of renewal and optimism.
I am happy to report today that I wake up every morning walking my truth. It's been a tough journey, but one that I would gladly do again. Knowing what I know now, I am overjoyed at the things I've learned and the stories I have to share. And now it's your turn...
Inspired by a Name

At each performance it was a full capacity crowd. The bars were packed with young soldiers that looked like they had barely graduated high school. There they are, serving their country with a smile on their face and a thirst for excitement. That's why I'm there, to give them a little excitement. To entertain them with a comedy they don't see too often; Hypnosis.
The shows were really wild and although I always say I do a clean show, despite my tasteful sketches, these boys would often take the suggestions to a whole new level. What are you going to do? It's a room full of raging testosterone and me. I can only describe these shows as a knock down, drag out good time. It's a good thing I'm now in my thirties and know better, otherwise the attention could go to a girls head.
One night after another over a ten day period the HypnoChick shows were packed and really fun. Every place I performed people called out the name, HypnoChick. Between their HooRah's, HypnoChick stuck with them and it made me begin to think. Did the Marine Corps boys just create a brand for me?
When I returned home from entertaining the troops in Asia I sent the Marine Corps deejay an email, and we agreed upon me taking over the name that he had casually created for me. For over five years now I have used the HypnoChick label and everyone seems to remember it. By the way, the name is De'Anna Nunez, not that you'll remember.
